Size Guide

Find your size

Every 76 West boot is handcrafted by master bootmakers using traditional techniques passed down for generations, and brought to you exclusively in the U.S. by 76 West Boot Co, an Oklahoma company. Because each pair is made by hand, we recommend measuring your foot rather than guessing from the size you wear in sneakers.

Sizing note: These boots run about a half size big. If you are between sizes, or you plan to wear them with a thin sock, order a half size down from your usual. If you wear thick boot socks, order your normal size. Use the measurements below to confirm.

How to measure your foot

  1. Put on the socks you plan to wear with your boots. Boot socks are thicker than everyday socks, and this genuinely changes your size.
  2. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
  3. Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe. That is not always your big toe.
  4. Measure from the wall to the mark in inches or centimeters.
  5. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement.
  6. Measure at the end of the day, when your feet are at their largest.

How a western boot should feel

  • Snug across the ball of the foot, never tight. The widest part of your foot should sit at the widest part of the boot.
  • Some heel slip is correct. A quarter to a half inch of heel lift when you walk is normal and expected in a new western boot. It goes away as the leather sole breaks in and molds to your foot.
  • Your toes should not touch the end. Western boots have a tapered toe box, and your toes should lie flat without pressing forward.
  • The instep holds the boot on. A western boot has no laces, so it grips at the instep. It should take a firm pull to get on. That resistance is the boot fitting correctly.

Breaking them in

Goodyear welt construction and a genuine leather sole mean these boots are built to be worn for years and resoled rather than replaced. Expect a real break-in period. Wear them a few hours a day for the first week before a full day out. Full-grain leather softens and takes the shape of your foot. It does not stretch in length, only in width and across the instep.

Caring for your boots

  • Wipe dust off with a dry cloth after wearing.
  • Condition the leather every few months, more often in dry climates.
  • Let them dry naturally, away from direct heat. Never put wet leather near a heater or hair dryer.
  • Use boot trees, or stuff the shafts with paper, so the shaft holds its shape.
  • Our genuine python exotic style needs a conditioner made for exotic leather, not standard boot cream. Embossed and printed leather styles take normal boot cream.
